Kanto 1v1 Round Robin (Part 1: Mew and Mewtwo)

The Kanto region's Pokemon and mechanics garner a lot of nostalgia, even for people who weren't alive when the original Pokemon games released.  It's no surprise, then, that RBY Smogon battles are quite popular on Pokemon Showdown.  The tiers found in this generation have been set in stone for a long time. Those tiers, however, are for a 6v6 Singles battle.  What happens to the ranking a Pokemon accrues if it is the only Pokemon you can use? What happens if we pit every Gen 1 Pokemon against every other in a mano a mano fight to the fainting?

Welcome to the Kanto 1v1 Round Robin.

(This series assumes all Pokemon have their best 4 attacking moves, all multi-hits hit the maximum damage, and no moves crit. Chance effects that decide a battle round to the nearest whole number, meaning an over 50 percent chance indicates a success.)

Mewtwo

Mewtwo, needless to say, is easily the best Pokemon in the game for 6v6. For this experiment, Mewtwo will have Psychic, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, and Submission. With this set, it covers the entire Pokedex, hitting at least neutrally. It's outspeed only by Electrode, who isn't particularly hard to KO by spamming Psychic. The only Pokemon it has a chance to lose to is its close relative Mew.

Mew

With every single move at it's disposal, Mew can pack Pin Missile, Psychic, Ice Beam, and Earthquake to cover, just like Mewtwo, every Pokemon in the Pokedex. However, in a battle against Mewtwo, it loses only if Ice Beam freezes it. Ice Beam takes 4 hits to KO Mew, and Pin Missile can hit back super-effectively, knocking out Mewtwo in 3. The odds of Mewtwo freezing Mew within 3 hits is about 27%. As such, we can assume Mew as the winner of the only fight that matters for this article.

The Scores So Far

1. Mew - 150/150
2. Mewtwo - 149/150

Be sure to stick around for future articles! The next one will be much larger, covering the main titans of OverUsed.
